Tori Green: Who are you? What do you do?
Morgan McVay: My name is Morgan, freelance MUA, lash brand owner, altmodel.
Tori: What was your first business (including running your own business)? My first was growing my freelance business?
Morgan: How long did this last or are you still involved in the same business? Still going! Ever since I left Mac cosmetics( fired lol we can talk about that).
Tori: Biggest challenge? How did you get through it?
Morgan: Biggest in the freelance world is getting clients, having what you need when you freelance especially when you don’t have a lot of money coming in, in the beginning, and invoices.
Tori: What is something that you wish you could go back and tell yourself before starting this journey?
Morgan: You’re doing great, don’t overthink your work, you’re just as good as your peers.
Tori: What did you do before owning your own/running your business?
Morgan: Worked in the mall, webcam girl, slight dom.
Tori: What/who made you take the first leap?
Morgan: Myself.
Tori: Who was the first to believe in you and give you real support (financial/sweat equity)?
Morgan: Best friend Lindsay hearts, owner of Foxblood, myviolet, my investor.
Tori: Was this your dream job? If not, what was?
Morgan: Yes, I love beauty and glamour in general, just made sense to start coming out with products.
Tori: Why did you get into this field?
Morgan: My love for beauty products + feeling good about yourself runs deep lol.
Tori: What is your biggest failure that you turned into a success?
Morgan: Getting fired from MAC and freelancing full time.
Tori: If you could change one thing about your life today for the better, what would it be?
Morgan: To dig deep and take better care of myself when I’m busy/stressed.
Tori: How is your life/work balance? Body, mind, and soul weekly routine?
Morgan: Honestly working on it, when it’s good. I’m meditating daily, working out, on top of my diet. I do keep a journal. I can be a loner sometimes, so if I'm on set a lot, at a bunch of events, parties. I will take myself on a date and just enjoy my own company. And just that day/night to myself does all the good in the world.
Tori: Do you say/write out affirmations?
Morgan: Yes!! Writing anything down is so powerful, an idea, a mindset, self validation, write it down. And if it is something that no longer serves you, like bad habits etc. Write it down, then burn it.
Tori: When was the last time you tried something new/ Stepped out of routine?
Morgan: This past October I started cosplaying.
Tori: Favorite book that changed your life?
Tori: Do you think your gender gives you an advantage or disadvantage in today’s world?
Morgan: Both.
Have you experienced different treatment from your peers of the opposite sex?
Morgan: Of course
Tori: Thoughts on the glass ceiling?
Tori: If you could talk to a young boy/girl from your hometown neighborhood who aspires to have your career/job/focus what would tell them? Advice.
Morgan: If there is something you want to do that doesn’t involve living where you live. And no one around you gets it, supports or understands… just leave. It’s terrifying, but I promise the other side of it is beautiful if you don’t stop.
Tori: Fun fact about you?
Morgan: Halloween,Anime and comics have been part of my life before it was cool lol.
Tori: Number one piece of advice you remember?
Morgan: “It’s never as bad as it seems” - my mom whenever I’m going through it.
Tori: Anything coming up for you that you want to talk about?
Morgan: New products in the new year, not just lashes.
